Since the last race meeting in Dijon, the Celtic Speed team have been busy scoring some more excellent results in Group C and Historic Formula 1.

The month of July started with the Le Mans Classic at the famous Circuit de la Sarthe. The original plan for the team was to run both the Spice C2 car and the Porsche 962 C1 car. Sadly in the days leading up to the race Tommy’s father in law, George Kelly passed away. This meant that Tommy was unable to race at the iconic French circuit and the decision was taken for Aaron Scott to race the 962 and try to get a good result as George would have wanted. Aaron placed the car 2nd overall on the 40 car grid. It was clear for the race that it would be a fuel race, as Group C always was back in the day, most of the leading cars had only enough fuel for 10.5 laps with the race being 11 laps! Of course with these cars the driver can’t see fuel consumption during the race so Aaron took the decision to save fuel from the start. This saw him in 3rd place for the first part of the race moving up to 2nd after the pit stops and taking a sensational win on the final lap as the leading Nissan ran out of fuel with 1/2 a lap to go! Aaron won the race by over a minute and a half. Cruelly a 2 minute penalty was applied after the race dropping the car to 2nd place for a pit stop timed too short. Still a great result for the car and driver in a field with some big names including this years Le Mans 24 hour overall winner for Porsche, Romain Dumas, also racing a 962. Aaron dedicated the result to George in his memory.

After Le Mans Classic the team headed to another huge event, the Silverstone Classic. This meeting has a huge following now and was a sell out once again. Tommy was racing the Porsche in Group C and the Williams in Historic F1. Tommy placed the Porsche 7th overall on the grid and 3rd in the C1 category after posting a personal best lap time. Race 1 took place on a stunning evening with a great sun set and he had a great race to place the car in 3rd place in the C1 category. Tommy repeated the result on Sunday with another great drive and now moves to 2nd place in the C1 drivers Championship with a chance of taking the overall Championship victory in Paul Ricard in October! For the F1 races Tommy placed the ex Rosberg Championship winning car in 18th place overall - 9th in the Head Class. Race 1 saw Tommy have a great battle with Max Hilliard - a battle which he won to score a 13th place overall finish, 8th in class and also set a personal best lap time. In race 2 Tommy placed 15th overall and 9th in class.

After Silverstone Classic the team headed to Glasgow for the inaugural Ignition Festival. This was a big car show with demo events from a host of cars including the Red Bull F1 car. Celtic Speed took the Porsche 962 and Williams F1. The show was a huge success and Tommy was in flamboyant form demonstrating both cars to the satisfaction of the large crowd. Mark Webber was a guest of the event and the former F1 race winner and factory Porsche driver, demonstrated the Celtic Speed Porsche 962, his first experience of a Group C car. You can find the video clip of Mark onboard the Porsche via our Videos page.

The next event for the team is the Monterey Historic meeting as the team heads to California and Laguna Seca where Tommy will be racing the March 761 ex Merzario Grand Prix car.
