It’s been a busy month for the Celtic Speed team as the 2016 season gets under way.
First for the team was the start of the Group C race season with the first races in Jarama, Spain on April 2-3. The Porsche 962 had a comprehensive winter rebuild by the team after Daytona at the end of 2015. As part of the Championship regulations all parts have to be checked for fatigue and this involves a detailed strip and rebuild to keep safety standards high in the Championship.
Driving duties were shared by Tommy Dreelan and Aaron Scott for the 2, 45 minute races and the weekend started well as the team secured outright pole position for both races. Race 1 saw the team finish 4th in the C1 category setting the fastest lap of the race as well. In race 2 the due finished in 3rd position in the C1 category after a great battle among the lead cars.
After the race Aaron commented, “The car ran really well this weekend and was very fast. It’s a great circuit, my first time in Jarama and I really like it. Tommy drove really well and the team have done a super job with the car so I’m looking forward to the next races. It’s also our first time running with the new organisers, Peter Auto, and it’s a nice atmosphere, well done to them!”
Post Jarama, the team took 3 cars to the Silverstone Classic Media day at the end of April. On hand was the team’s Williams FW08, the Porsche 962 and the March 761. The team used the media test to shake down the cars and give Tommy some time in the March which he will race in the Monaco Historic F1 race on May 15. The car will also be featured along with the Williams in a forthcoming MotorSport magazine article so watch this space!.
Next event is the Monaco Historic race meeting at the classic Monte Carlo F1 track, we will bring you more news soon!
