Celtic Speed will be heading to America in October for the final Historic Formula 1 races of the season. They will field 2 Historic F1 cars in Austin and Mexico City where the Historic F1 grid joins the Formula 1 World Championship again as a supporting race.
The races in Austin and Mexico are expected to be hotly contested with as many as 46 cars expected to take to the grid in Austin at the COTA circuit. The team will field their Williams FW08 for Tommy Dreelan, this being the ex Keke Rosberg World Championship winning car from the 1982 season. They will also field the ex Arturio Merzario March 761 that the Italian driver raced in the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship, this will be driven by Aaron Scott.
Tommy Dreelan said, “To race in an Historic F1 car on a Grand Prix weekend is a fantastic experience and we are really looking forward to racing at COTA and experiencing the new Mexico City circuit. The team have been working hard to make sure our cars are well turned out and we hope to go well!”
From Mexico the team will head to Florida for the Classic Daytona 24 hour in their Leyton House liveried Porsche 962. Tommy and Aaron will drive together again and hope to repeat their success from 2014 where the pair won the inaugural Classic Daytona. The team warmed up for the event last weekend (October 4th) at the final Group C meeting of the European season in Paul Ricard where the car showed it’s potential leading the race before going on to finish 4th in the C1 class.
Aaron said, “The Porsche 962 is a fabulous car to drive and last year we really enjoyed the Daytona event, we will be going for it again and hope to repeat our success from 2014.”
The Austin event takes place on October 23-25th. Mexico City on October 30-1st November with the Daytona Classic on November 14/15.
