Final Push For Glory

Porsche Carrera Cup GB - Brands Hatch GP - Rounds 19/20

In what seems to be a reflection of my season, there are ups and downs about the last meeting of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this coming weekend. The highs have to be the excitement in being involved at the sharp end and racing in the Brands Hatch GP circuit – a track I have always loved. The low is the knowledge that this is the final round and once Sunday night comes round, that is it for another year.

If everyone at Celtic Speed gets it right, then a season that had looked quite tough in parts will finish on a tremendous high. If we all perform as I know we can, then we will cement third place in the championship – my best ever finish in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

So, to Brands. The simple fact is that I need to finish better than Dean Stoneman and Daniel Lloyd and third place is mine. The first aim has to be to qualify as high as we can so it will be maximum attack for that one lap performance. I want to end the season on a high so we will be putting forward a strong challenge in the races, but I am not going to take any unnecessary risks. Two good finishes and a haul of points are what we are after.

The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is one of the fastest and most iconic circuits in the UK and it even hosted the Formula 1 British Grand Prix until 1986. It's combination of dips, cambers, fearsome corners and hills poses huge challenges for driver and car. I will need to be extremely committed in the fast sections and precise in the tight, technical turns to secure a fast lap time.

Here’s hoping Celtic Speed has a good reason to crack open the champagne on Sunday night.
