ROOKIE Rory Butcher produced the performance of his life in the puddles on the Nordschleife.
Butcher was one of NINETY-EIGHT cars taking part in what organisers had dubbed the GREATEST Porsche race in the world.
The Carerra Cup competitions from 25 countries converged on Nurburgring for the six-lap showdown - starting in three blocks in torrential rain.
Celtic Speed star Butcher had qualified in 42nd place - starting in the second block of cars on the 14-mile track through the mountains. But he battled hisway through the field to finish 15th - second in the British Carerra Cup rankings behind TIM HARVEY.
And the young Fifer refused to let a controversial 30-second penalty for not spotting a yellow flag in the rain ruin his dream day.
That dropped him to 25th overall and fourth in the British, although he still won the ProAm1 class.
He said: "It was absolute carnage out there - there were cars in the walls almost everywhere. Most drivers were just lucky to get over the line. I am disappointed with the decision to give me a penalty, but it is still probably one of the best drives I have had.
"I was battling with SAM TORDOFF. It was impossible to see anything but there was a yellow flag and I’d overtaken him.
"It is my mistake and they have given me the penalty. There is nothing I can do it about it now."
Butcher couldn’t hide the thrill of taming one of the most notorious circuits on the planet - a track dubbed the Green Hell. He added: "This has to be the best circuit in the world. I want to come back here. It is just so fun racing on a 14-mile circuit. It’s such a buzz compared to some of the modern circuits in the UK.
"It’s like 14 Knockhills. It was incredibly tough. But to fight it out over 14 miles and come 15th on the road against the best Porsche drivers in the world - I can’t ask for more. It is the best result of my whole year. I even had a spin on lap three. Without that, I think it would have put me up another couple of places and I think I would have won the overall GB race.
"It must be the Scottish weather. It just seems to suit me. The first lap was really scary. You couldn’t see anything because of the spray.
"I just took my time and got a feel for it. I locked up the wheels maybe five times during the first lap and almost went straight on at the first hairpin.
"As the rain stopped, I got more comfortable. The rest of the cars kept coming to me and I got the car sliding and got into a rhythm."
